Spleen Dampness Terminology and Body Weight
Spleen dampness is TCM terminology. It does not explain obesity, edema, metabolic disease, or food cravings, and tongue appearance should not be used to select a weight-loss treatment.
Visible characteristics discussed in TCM education
- A broad or scalloped appearance in some traditional descriptions
- A coating described as thick or greasy
- Features that are not specific to body weight or metabolism
These characteristics can have ordinary causes such as lighting, hydration, food, oral hygiene, medication, irritation, or normal variation. A photo alone cannot determine their cause.
When to seek qualified care
Rapid weight change, new swelling, shortness of breath, chest pain, or concerns about eating and body image should be addressed with a qualified healthcare professional.
Seek urgent medical help for trouble breathing or swallowing, sudden tongue swelling, uncontrolled bleeding, severe dehydration, confusion, chest pain, or other emergency symptoms.
